SongDex is the work of Walter M. Windsor, who has become a Music Historian since his retirement as a broadcasting executive in television and radio 15 years ago.

It started out as a cataloguing system for his extensive collections of recordings and sheet music, amassed in his 50 years in broadcasting. When he failed to find a comprehensive source for song information, he began collecting information on standard popular music from every source obtainable.

The resulting database of SongDex could only be matched by the use of more than 100 different books on the subject, and by spending over five years in the research, collating, and annotating of their contents.

Walter Windsor began his career as a radio singer in 1935, while in high school. He then worked as announcer, actor, writer, journalist, music librarian, and director. He entered radio station management in 1946 and moved to television in 1954. He subsequently managed TV stations in several markets, eventually becoming the corporate head for groups of TV and radio stations.

He also had a "second career" as an actor and singer in many regional stage productions, both in community and professional theatre. He is a member of just about every organization in existence that relates to jazz, big band, and other aspects of American standard popular music.
